"When Will This Pain Ever End?" That is the question so many of us ask ourselves when we are grieving the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship or some other great personal loss. Sometimes our pain can last years. People tell us, "Time heals all wounds," but no matter how much time passes, our feelings of sadness and emptiness don’t seem to fade. We try to keep busy, but end up running around aimlessly on automatic pilot, and sharing our feelings doesn’t lessen the heartache. In desperation, we might turn to alcohol, overeating, recreational drugs or anti-depressants. Or, we might withdraw from life and other people. We feel disconnected and aimless, alone and helpless. Yet still, we hold onto the belief that we "should" be able to get over this on our own.

The Truth about Grief and Loss The truth is, most of our beliefs about grief are MYTHS. We falsely believe something "out there" – time, talking, activity, drugs – will stop the pain. But the truth is that healing from grief and loss comes from allowing ourselves to grieve instead of trying to stop the hurt. Of course, the idea of allowing ourselves to feel the pain can be scary. We can only do it when we feel safe and supported, and when we know how to work through it. That is why grief recovery specialist Paula Shaw has written this book: "When Will This Pain Ever End? Finding Your Way Out of the Pit of Despair after Profound Grief and Loss."

Author Paula Shaw, CADC, DCEP wants everyone to know grief doesn't have to be a life sentence. Drawing upon more than 20 years of experience as an Energy Psychology Specialist, Reiki Master and Grief Counselor, Paula helps you understand your own grief experience, and empowers you to heal instead of waiting helplessly for things to change. This book is a combination of informative articles and practical exercises you can use right away in your recovery process. As no two people are the same, Paula guides you through a variety of mind-body processes including breathing techniques, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), visualization, energy work, journaling and many other healing tools.

Paula Shaw understands grief. Paula's life was turned upside down in 2008 when, within one month, she lost both her former husband with whom she had remained close and her beloved 14-year-old dog, Sammy. Although she herself was overcome with emotions, her two children who were just entering adulthood also needed emotional support from her. Realizing there was no way to help others until she learned how to help herself, she started exploring different healing techniques. Within a few months, people around her remarked that they could see a noticeable shift in her. Even some who weren’t clients started asking her for help with their own recovery journeys. That is when Paula heard her calling and decided to dedicate her life to helping others struggling to cope with grief and loss.

There IS Light at the End of the Tunnel From experience, Paula knows that when we are going through a great loss, it can seem like it will never end; the only thing we want is to stop feeling the pain. She also knows that those who learn how to activate their own healing will often discover their recovery has taken them to a richer place, where they feel wiser, more grateful and more peaceful within their lives. Instead of feeling like they've lost everything, they view their lives with new eyes, with new horizons shining brightly before them. Of course, right now the world around you might still look very dark and barren. That's the perfect place to begin reading this book. Gradually, you will see there IS light at the end of this tunnel as you read and apply what you will learn in this handbook for grief recovery: When Will this Pain Ever End?
